Although some colleges offer evening classes, they might not offer all the classes that are required to graduate in the evening. If you need non-traditional hours, your best bet might be to attend college online. If you want to attend a traditional college, you may want to see whether all of your required classes will be offered during hours you can attend before you apply to be a student.

Are You Comfortable with Technology?

To attend college online, it helps if you are comfortable with technology. You will need to submit your assignments over the internet, and you may be required to participate in chat rooms or online bulletin boards. Some colleges may require you to install their proprietary software. If you are not comfortable with technology, you may want to look into a traditional college. If you need to attend college online but need help, you may want to take a computer class at a local community college prior to enrolling as a student at an online college.

Do You Have Good Reading Comprehension?

When you attend college online, you will have to do almost all of your learning through books and over the computer. In the future, more college lectures may move to video lectures, but they are still primarily given in print format. If you have difficulty learning through books and need to learn by listening to lectures and attending classes, you may prefer attending college in a traditional classroom.

Can You Motivate Yourself?

When you attend a traditional college, you have regular classes to attend. You see your professor regularly, and you have other classmates to complete projects with and study with. The regular contact that you have with other people can often help you remember to do your assignments and study. If you are the type of person that can motivate yourself to do your assignments, you will probably do well in an online college. If you have trouble motivating yourself and need the support of other students and professors, a traditional classroom might fit you better.
